Do we really know how to leave the past behind. What is leaving the past behind, if we can imagine for a moment. Is leaving the past behind is no regret, no sorrow, no pain. Its a choice that you can make by living in the present moment.
Some people let their past affect their present so much that they are held back from creating possibilities for themselves, being free, and living in the moment.
Those who especially have a hard time moving on from their past are the people who are unable to face the truth of their reality. Instead of accepting what had happened to them, they distort the story in their minds. They make choice to not to leave the past behind.
When people try to lie to themselves, they are never able to find resolve. This is because they know in the back of their minds that the story they choose to believe is not the actual truth. This does not sit well in their consciousness, making them forever uneasy about their past.

What can we do to leave the past behind?
In order for anyone to find resolve or closure about something that happened in the past, they must first accept what happened for what it really is.They should not deviate from the truth, because the moment they do so, closure cannot be attained, as the issue is hidden beneath the lies and cannot be tackled properly.

It may be tempting to twist an unfavorable incident in your mind so that you do not have to deal with the pain that goes along with knowing the whole truth. However, we must refrain from doing this because although it may be comforting at first, it will only serve to prolong the pain and discomfort. You will never be at peace for so long as you try to believe a lie you told yourself.
Accept to Leave the Past Behind
When you accept the truth of your past for what it really is, it will be like tearing out a band aid –painful, but quick. You will feel the pain of the truth, however, you will be able to move on from it much faster than if you continue to lie to yourself.
Try to be strong by facing your past for what it truly is. Do not try to paint a better picture of it in hopes that someday you might believe it. The truth will always be residing within you and haunting you, lest you finally face it.
It will happen once the acceptance that you make about your life to leave the past behind.
